ROOFING 101

What makes a good roof?

Good underlayment, high quality material, good plastic cement, good penetration sealing & a properly trained staff to install products

How should I select a roofing company?

Unfortunately, many overnight roofing companies have created mistrust by taking money without ever completing the repairs. When selecting a roofing company, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Ask how long the company has been in business.
  • Check the Better Business Bureau for complaints and whether the company has gone back to fix repairs,
    address issues, etc.
  • You may also check with local roofing suppliers—relationships matter!
  • Call the City of El Paso’s building permit office and inquire whether the company’s building permits are legitimate.

These are some other tips from the National Roofing Contractors Association website.

  • Check for a permanent place of business, telephone number, tax I.D. number, and where required, a business license.
  • Insist on seeing copies of the contractor's liability insurance coverage and workers' compensation certificates.
Make sure the coverages are in effect through the duration of the job.
  • Check to see whether the contractor is properly licensed or bonded.
  • Insist on a written proposal and examine it for complete descriptions of the work and specifications, including
approximate starting and completion dates and payment procedures
  • Have the contractor explain his project supervision and quality control procedures. Request the name of the person
who will be in charge, how many workers will be required and the estimated time of completion.

Types/Qualities of Materials available

upon request.

Did you know?

  • The dramatic changes in temperature stretch and condense your roof. This often takes a toll on the shingles
and the rest of the material.
  • The sun is one of the roughest elements on roofs, making roof materials i.e., shingles and dry cement dry up and crack.
  • Homeowners are encouraged to perform maintenance on their roofs every two to three years.

If it’s time to give your roof some maintenance, call Escalante Enterprises at (915) 860-2672 or click here.
